Are You Using The Right Hair brush For Your Hair Type?

This all started because I was looking for the perfect hair brush and wow, there are a lot of brushes out there!

First off, everyone needs a detangling brush when your hair is wet - why? Because when your hair is wet, it’s at its most fragile state. ‘Wet"‘ brushes have bristles with just the right combination of softness and firmness to untangle your hair without damaging it. One of our favs is the Wet brush. They are good for ALL types of hair types, whoo-hoo!

Now… you could use your ‘Wet brush’ for dry hair too but if you really want to up your hair game, find out the perfect brush to use on dry hair, for your specific hair type!

Soft bristle brushes (Boar bristle brushes with extra soft bristles) are perfect for those with delicate hair. If your hair is thinning or especially fragile, not only is this hair brush gentle but it will also stimulate the scalp, increasing circulation to the hair follicle.

Boar bristle brushes restores your natural shine and texture, they will help distribute your natural oil from your scalp to the tips of your hair strands. Also - if you are in need of regulating excess oil production, nightly brushing with a boar bristle brush can help perform miracles! The brush will capture oil from your roots and transfer it to your ends.

Mixed bristle brushes combine the shine enhancing affects of boar bristles along with the scalp stimulation and easy detangling of nylon or wire bristles. This combination can be most effective for those with long or thick hair

Taming thick or coarse hair can be a chore. A Nylon bristle brush can help end the struggle with your strands. They tend to be strong enough to handle the volume of your hair while also gently removing those stubborn tangles

Wooden Bristle Brushes are an excellent choice for curly hair because the widely spaced wooden pins will help to get through the curls without pulling. They also discourage static and frizz, unlike plastic brushes.

Easy ways to get rid of 'hat hair'

Whether we are wearing our fav designer hat or trying to stay warm in our beanie - living in Manitoba, hat hair is inevitable and unavoidable - so whats a girl to do when she wants to wear her favourite headwear?

Here are 5 things you can do to help fix hat hair

  1. Before you put the hat on - your hair has to be dry! If it’s wet or even damp, your hair will dry to the inside of the hat, making your roots flatter and causing indentions. Carefully place your hat on your head in a mindful manor that doesn’t mess up your hair too much.

  2. When in doubt ring-it-out - try the damp towel method, it will ‘iron’ out any indents or lines left behind. Simply take a hand towel or hair towel, rinse under hot water, ring it out until damp not wet and carefully pat down any indents or wrap the towel around your head.

  3. Here are 3 favourite products that will help minimize and revitalize any hat hair:

Living Proof’s Full Dry Volume + Texture Spray

Instantly transforms fine, flat, or thin hair

Delivers instant, revivable, and long-lasting volume that will help hat hair on the go, from root to tip.

Living Proof’s no frizz Vanishing Oil

Tames frizz, flyaways + static

A fast-absorbing oil that vanishes into strands to hydrate and block humidity, leaving hair smooth and shiny.

Living Proof’s Flex Hairspray

Brushable, layerable, and reworkable

can be used to reset and style without any stiffness, leaving hair touchable.

*B+P tip: opt for travel size products you can take on-the-go with you if you know you will be taking your hat off

4. Hat hair can be even more worse for those who have ‘above the shoulder length’ - if you wear hats often, try keeping your crop longer for the winter months. If a longer style isn’t an option, remember to try the damp towel method.

5. Invest in a silk or satin hair wrap. Try wearing one under your hat, it will be perfect for beanie and snow hat weather as it will keep your style frizz-free and protected beneath your hat.

Trade your go-to hairstyle for this trending hair tip

Winter 2023 we know you will be harsh and dry out our tresses so here’s what we are gonna do every week, especially on the day before we wash our hair and its almost all dry shampooed out - a treatment bun! Yep it’s exactly what it sounds like - a bun hairstyle mixed with a hair treatment. Lots of celebrities have been seen wearing this trending slicked-back look, including Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, and Bella Hadid.

All you need is your favourite treatment - our go to is Olaplex Nº3, a hair tie and/or a clip.

You can choose any products to use in your treatment bun, if you are wanting more moisture, try the Living Proof perfect hair day weightless mask or even the restore repair mask.

Hot tip- if you are opting for the Olaplex Nº3, why not try adding the Nº0 intensive bond building treatment which is pretty much the most intense Olaplex treatment you can do at home!

How to:

  1. Begin with dry or damp hair, apply Olaplex Nº0 thoroughly on the hair, comb through, let sit for 10 minutes.

  2. Apply Nº3 right after the 10 minutes are up, layering the product (you do not need to rinse), combing through all over.

  3. Now is the time to section your hair to your desired hair part

  4. Comb into a pony, you can use a hair tie here

  5. Twist and clip the hair, either leaving the ends out for fun or tucking them in.

  6. For some extra sleekness, apply a quarter size of Olaplex Nº3 or a dime size of Olaplex Nº7 and smooth over top of part, moving in the same direction as the hair lays.

  7. Go about your day wearing this cute bun while rebuilding the integrity of your hair!

We would highly recommend this hair trick to anyone who loves the sleek look of a low bun hairstyle but wants to get the benefit of caring for their hair a the same time.
